The Air Force Armament Museum is a must-see when visiting Fort Walton Beach. Located on the grounds of Eglin Air Force Base, this free museum is dedicated to aviation warfare from World War I to present day. The outdoor area contains an array of military aircraft representing the Korean, Vietnam and Gulf Wars, and includes the fastest plane ever built, the SR-71 Blackbird. Inside the museum are more aircraft as well as a wide variety of bombs, missiles, rockets and other weaponry, plus interactive displays. History buffs will enjoy these impressive exhibits, and children too young to grasp the educational side of things will still be entranced with the planes, especially the ones they can sit in. There’s a very nice little gift shop at the museum which carries affordable souvenirs, models and keepsakes. The Air Force Armament Museum is a fascinating and worthwhile stopover for families vacationing in the area.
