Pleasantly surprised

We arrived at the resort early afternoon and were cheerfully greeted by the staff. Check-in was quick and we were in our room in no time. The resort is comprised of a series of small 'villas' each of which houses 3-5 rooms/suites. This was a nice change from the usual highrise hotel. We got a family suit - one King and two twin beds. The room was not remarkable but the beds were comfortable, the AC worked and the staff kept it plenty clean. Our trip coincided with the Easter holiday so we found some of the off resort activities not available. That being said there were still plenty of activities to occupy everyone – we all enjoyed our visit to the waterfalls. The pools and beach at the resort were kept clean...

The great, the not so good, and the bad

We had a good time except for a few setbacks. The resort grounds was nice and clean. The dining areas were very clean and well maintained during dining periods. All staff did their best to make things great for us. We has great dining experiences at the mexican and especially at the oriental restaurant. The variation in food could have been a little better at the buffet dining. Also, we found it rather bothersome not to be able to to take something away from the beach restaurant seeing that we had a 3yo with us. Our worst experience was the presence of ratbats, their feces, and their leftover food on our balcony and furniture nightly. The cleanig crew did their best to clean-up but mess on the wall and furni...

All inclusive is cheaper booking in Canada than in the US. I travelled from Southwest Florida to Miami as other flights were not direct. The direct flight was more expensive but I did not want to spend additional time waiting at another airport. US airlines should consider better package deals and more convenience regarding departure locations.Had to pay a $10 airport tax of which I was not aware. Family members travelled from Canada and all costs were included in their package.Mosquitos liked me but not anyone else in my party.Coco Tours took me to the wrong hotel - Allegro Playa Dorado. Had to pay $6 to get to the right hotel.Had to contact Coco Tours to ensure that I was getting a return ride to the airpo...

Great vacation

It was a lovely resort and there was lots to do, even on the rainy days (although a new dart board set and ping pong paddles would be good!). The water slide pool was a big hit with the kids, and the beach was clean and beautiful. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Many excursions are possible from the resort. The dune buggies were fun, but the best trip was to the waterfalls in the national park. Park staff help you up the falls, and you slide down the natural slides in the falls. Wow!! See Dio on the beach. He did a great job of arranging our outings and was very helpful. The food was average. The breakfasts and lunches were great (stick with the Dominican food!!). Dinners were a bit spotty, but there...

One thing before I talk about the hotel... don't just book a hotel reservation unless you are down with just going to the beach, eating, and sleeping. I suggest you book excursions. (you can do them when you get there too)Our reservation was not made when we got there so we had to wait around for the people at the concierge to find us a room and then to clean one up for us. The buffet style food wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the greatest thing either. If you're a foodie... stay away. Once a week you can reserve a table at one of the other restaurants where they serve you. I would refrain from making restaurant reservations. The food is TERRIBLE. Just stick to the buffet if you're going to go. Also, I would ...
