The American West is dotted with ghost towns built by adventurers who rode to the frontier to find their fortune in gold or silver. Ashcroft Ghost Town is a perfect example of this legacy. A short 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Aspen, the ghost town offers parents and kids alike the chance to soak in the history of a town that was founded when silver was discovered nearby, grew to thousands of residents almost overnight and was virtually abandoned within four years. Walking through the 15 historic buildings, including the town saloon, jail and hotel, families will get a sense of what it was like to live in the Old West. People of all ages are sure to enjoy a walk back in time at Ashcroft Ghost Town.
