Aviation Museum (Museo del Aire), Madrid, Spain

The Aviation Museum (Museo del Aire) is a fun and free activity that provides a little something different for families visiting Madrid. The museum is comprised of several hangars containing a very impressive collection of historic and rare aircraft from around the world; several more airplanes are parked outside. Even individuals who are not fans of aviation will enjoy looking at these strange and wonderful machines – fighter jets and helicopters sit side by side with exhibits of radio equipment and aviation relics. Since the museum is on military property, backpacks are not allowed and other belongings may be searched; otherwise it’s a friendly experience that boys and girls with airplane obsessions are sure to love. There is a minimal coffee shop onsite, but no seating, so it’s a good idea to bring a picnic lunch. The Aviation Museum is a rare sight and a nice alternative to the better-known attractions in Madrid.

Tips for Families
This attraction is a 20-minute walk from the Metro, but some buses can get families closer (don't use any of the green buses). Check the schedules and ask the driver to stop close to the museum. Also, plan to go closer to when they open, as they close early in the afternoon.
