Banyan Tree Park actually includes only one banyan tree. Planted in 1873, the tree has grown 12 additional trunks, stands 60 feet high and shades 2/3 of an acre. The shade beneath the tree has become a popular place to rest and enjoy a shave ice in downtown Lahaina.

If you go to Maui, you have to see the Banyan Tree. If you go to Lahaina, you have to see the Banyan Tree. If you go to the Pioneer Inn, you have to see the Banyan Tree. That is what I did. It is right in the middle of town, you can't miss it because it is the center of life, the tree in front of the Lahaina Harbour. It is so huge you just won't believe it. The tree grows sideways with branches going in and out of the ground and roots hanging down from the sideways branches until they reach the ground and make new branches. So cool sitting under it when it is roasting hot outside with all of the kids playing around it, running through, laughing. To some a tree is boring but to me it is amazing. Redwoods blow...
