For architecture buffs, history aficionados or anyone who loves the magic of old New England, Benefit Street's Mile of History is a must-see on Providence's historic waterfront. The Providence Preservation society proclaims it the most impressive example of original Colonial style architecture in the country. Although most of the buildings are privately owned, a self-guided walking tour along the cobblestone street leads to the Nightingale-Brown House. Built in 1792, it was home to five generations of the Brown family, of Brown University fame.
