Berlin Bear Pit, Berlin, Germany
Rungestr. 31, Berlin, Germany| Map |
The bear is Berlin's official heraldic animal, and thus is quite respected in the city. In fact, Berlin has its own Bears (Schnute, 26 and Maxi, 11). These burly but lovable creatures call the Berlin Bear Pit home. Behind the Märkisches Museum is the naturalistic bear pit, which families can visit during the bears' waking hours, so as not to disturb their sleep. Schnute is the reigning bear as he became the official bear of Berlin in 2007, but both are happy to see visitors.
