Description

There’s no better place than Mardi Gras World in New Orleans, Louisiana to learn about the history of the famous festival and how the lavish floats are made. At this kid-friendly New Orleans attraction, visitors go on a behind-the-scenes tour and learn about the magic and extensive planning necessary to stage a grand attraction like Mardi Gras. Tours include a display of Mardi Gras costumes, a historic video and a free slice of King Cake (which is difficult to find out of season). Since 1947, Blaine Kern Studios has been building the spectacular parade floats for major parades not only for Mardi Gras, but for parades throughout the world. Families will get to see where artisans create the amazing floats and props for more than 40 parades each year. Wandering through the magical float den is an exciting experience for kids and adults alike. Families should bring their cameras because there are plenty of opportunities for snapping photos in front of floats, with props or wearing a traditional Mardi Gras costume. Hour-long tours take place every 30 minutes, seven days a week. Ticket prices include a free shuttle with pick-up service available at 20 convenient downtown locations.

Tips for Families

Kids will get the chance to try on carnival costumes.
