Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
900 North Birch Road, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304| Map |
A vision of beauty and artistry, the Bonnet House encompasses a historical house, museum and gardens. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and declared a historic landmark by the city of Ft. Lauderdale in 2002. It is now considered one of America's treasures and as it was once the residence of Chicago artist and art collector Frederic Clay Bartlett, it houses an amazing art gallery. The gardens contain one of the largest collections of orchids in the nation. Visitors can take a guided group tour and discover for themselves the history of the Bonnet House.

Fort Lauderdale Beach 100 Years AgoFlag review
Bonnet House Museum and Gardens is located across from the beach in Fort Lauderdale on undeveloped land. The estate is casual and comfortable rather than elegant and grand. The downside with kids is that they only offer guided tours and the upside is that there is room to walk and a nature trail if you need to exit the tour. While they do get school groups, this is better for a teenager that is interested in history.
Tips for Families
If you're interested in seeing undeveloped Fort Lauderdale beach, a better bet with younger children is Hugh Taylor Birch Park (the same gentleman that owned the Bonnet House land) across the street.
