Tips for Families

For the younger set, the Hamill Family Play Zoo is a must see. The kids can pretend to be veterinarians and dinosaur hunters here. It's a great place to take a break from touring for a little while.

The number and size of Brookfield's exhibits obviously can't be beat anywhere around here. They have lots of little side shows for younger kids, and they also a have bar that will serve you exorbitantly priced beers (better than nothing, though). They also run a lo...

I think your zoo exoerience depends on what you make of your time there. I avoid the summer, when it is teeming with families and kids, I also avoid the early morning right after it opens when the school groups decend like locusts. Go in the spring, fall or winter. It is not crowded and the animals just seem to be be more accessible. I was just there on a bright, sunny, fall morning. Walking around the grounds was a joy as the fall colors seemed to create a wonderful canvas against which to view the animals. Get there around 10:30 AM and as you walk around look for the docents. Engage them in conversation and let them tell you about what you are viewing. They are very knowledgable and genuinly interested in ...

Love this zoo.  It's free on Tuesdays, apparently, which was great because I'm not a member just yet and I happened to go on a Tuesday.  Parking's dead simple during the week but can get downright nasty on a busy day. People with non-walking ...

I would give 5-stars if they didn't charge extra for so many things! For the cost of admission, you should have access to all exhibits. I can see paying an additional cost for the dolphin show...

I love Brookfield Zoo! I think it's a beautiful, fun, family place to visit... if not once, then twice each summer. It's become a bit more expensive to visit, but if you buy the family membership for the year and come at least twice, it's pretty much paid for itself. The exhibits are fairly nice and kept up. The animals seem to be well taken care of. They've got pretty much every animal you'd ever want to see. And you can pretty much see it all (almost) in one day...  My personal fave is the monkey-house. You can really see the monkeys in their own habitat and they're so entertaining! There's 3 different houses within the monkey exhibit and they're all equally exciting for their own reasons. It's nice to bri...
