Since we were there in January and we went on a weekday, we never had to wait in the lines people like to complain about. Trying to ride this on a sunny summer weekend will guarantee you end up with a long wait and annoyed and cranky kids.

Yes, it's pricey for the ride but it's the experience you're paying for. We paid $12 round-trips.  Our kids enjoyed the ride.  It was cold that day, so we sat inside and view the town through the glass. Since this is a hot item that tourists do, expect very long lines.  We waited at Fisherman's Wharf early, still a long wait but able to take pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and boat/water scentery while we waited. When you get off the last stop in the Shopping Center if you're coming from the Fisherman's Wharf and have a return ticket, don't wait in the super long line at the Shopping Center.  Walk up a block and wait for the cable car, you'll save at least 45 minutes.  They always take a few passengers on...

Traveling with wife and 3 kids, and although my wife and I have been to SF on numerous occasions, decided to give the kids a taste of the city.  While spending time in line (took about 30 minutes) can certainly be a drag with kids (ages 7, 6 and 2) we managed just fine.  Our drivers, to the Wharf and back, could not have been more enjoyable.  Represen...
