Tips for Families

Be prepared to pay for parking - it's $3 an hour. There is street parking in the park but it's a hot commodity. If you have any energy left, there are bike rentals near the entrance to the parking garage or just walk in the park. CityPass holders can go straight to the members entrance.

Tips for Families

Depending on your child's interests, focus on those galleries instead of trying to see everything (with young kids). Take a lunch break at the Academy Cafe and end the outing with a stop at the gift store, which has cool toys and books.

Tips for Families

As we were in town for two weeks, it was most useful to us to buy two CityPasses, which includes this location each time, so we happily went twice! Also, going to their website I just discovered: All guests receive free admission on: March 3, 2013 and June 2, 2013! Score! http://www.calacademy.org/visit/

I enjoy going here predominantly because I'm always the free guest on a friend's family membership.  If I didn't have a toddler, I most likely wouldn't be able to handle the crowds and fluctuating stroller and school field trips inundatio...

The California Academy of Sciences was a perennial favorite of mine growing up as a geeky science and nature lover. I was really excited when I learned that my husband's company Xmas party was going to be here. I hadn't seen the Academy of Science since it had been remodeled. The party was great and the building is super modern and cool-looking, but  I have to say I am a little disappointed with what they've done.  The living roof was awesome, yes. The rainforest biodome was great, yes again. But other than those two things and the planetarium, there is so much missing from the museum that used to be here. Where are the naturescapes? ok I don't miss these with their creepy moth-eaten stuffed animals. but whe...
