In addition to historic buildings and art, northern New Mexico is home to abundant outdoor riches, such as the Carson National Forest. The pleasantly cool summer temperatures and striking mountain scenery make the Carson National Forest a popular destination for families on vacation. There are plenty of opportunities for fishing, camping and hiking in the area, and the RV and four-wheel-drive crowd make great use of them. Skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are available in winter, and more activities can be discovered by visiting the Forest Service ranger station. Families visiting Taos or Santa Fe should definitely pencil in a day trip to the Carson National Forest.
