The Castle of Sao Jorge is a museum and historical landmark where families can go to learn more about Lisbon and its past. The attraction has an Archeological Site section where visitors can explore what is left of a Moorish neighborhood dating back to the 11th century. There is also the Permanent Exhibit where travelers can see a collection of artifacts that were found at the site. The onsite Castle Cafe and Casa do Leao Restaurant serve delicious food in relaxing environments. Both the Permanent Exhibit and the two eateries are located in the ruins of what was once the Royal Palace of the Alcacova, which features architecture dating back to the 14th century. Families can take the free guided tour of the inner castle, archeological site and Permanent Exhibition that lasts about an hour and 30 minutes to get a more in depth understanding of the region. For a shorter activity, visitors can check out the 20 minute long 'Through the Looking-Glass' exhibit that will teach them about the history of the city while displaying real images of the area on a large glass mirror. The Periscope ? Tower of Ulysses is a popular tourist destination that offers great views of Lisbon from its lookout point and is well worth the short flight of stairs that visitors must ascend to reach the top. Nature lovers will enjoy the beautiful garden at the town where they can see a variety of native plant species, and guests are welcome to take photographs when visiting the town.
