Chikuzen Shipwreck, Beef Island, British Virgin Islands

Parents and older children who are experienced divers seeking underwater adventure will love the chance to drive the Chikuzen Shipwreck. In 1981, the refrigerator ship’s crew tried to scuttle the 268-foot (82-meter) vessel, lighting it on fire; when it didn’t go down right away, it was towed to its present location, where it sank and came to rest on its side 75 feet (23 meters) below the surface. Divers will love exploring the ship’s hull, viewing the wildlife that lives among the wreckage (including octopi, barracuda and occasionally some sharks) and taking pictures of the unique environment. Families who dive will not want to miss the chance to see the Chikuzen Shipwreck when they’re visiting Tortola.
