The kids were thrilled to get to see Winter, the dolphin, and learned a lot about marine life!

Tips for Families

There are times when your children will be waiting for a presentation to begin; talk about polite behavior towards others and being respectful and quiet while waiting. It would also be a great idea to talk as a family about marine life, before and after your trip. There are snacks available at the museum, but you may want to bring along some small snacks yourselves. Don't bring too many, though, as you will want to have your hands free to pet the dolphins!

Suggestions for nearby family-friendly accommodations

Tradewinds Hotel is a family-friendly hotel that is located in St. Petersburg, the next town south on the beach. They have a water-theme park and many offers for other activities that will be fun for your family. The kids will be busy all day right on the hotel grounds enjoying the pool and beach. Our kids even enjoyed playing the life-size chess game.

Suggestions for nearby family-friendly restaurants

There are several child-friendly restaurants in the vicinity. At the beach there is a large shaded outdoor playground where you could have a picnic after visiting the museum.

My Kid's Review

Our children loved the Clearwater Marine Museum and are already asking when we can return for another visit. They love Winter, and also enjoyed the pelicans, otters and other animals there. They liked how the staff included kids in their presentations and answered their questions about marine life.

This place is a cute little aquarium. I wouldn't say it's as good as Tampa Aquarium but it's a great place to visit if you're in the area. I had a great time here but it's not a place you would expect to be impressed. It may because I'm a big kid loo...

Rescue. Rehab. Release. This is the motto of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and it was refreshing to be in a place that was looking to help the resident animals and not exploit them. If you're looking for a big fancy aquarium, you will be disappointed. The workers you see are all volunteers. The animals you see have all been rescued. Some will be rehabilitated and returned to the wild, while others will live at CMA as they are unable to safely return to the ocean. CMA opened their doors to the public in order to fund their mission. If you think about your price of entry in terms of a donation to their cause, then the cost is well worth it. The presentations are educational and informative. Yes, the dolphins ...

Took my 4 yr old granddaughter here recently.  I wasn't sure how much she would enjoy or get out of it, but it turned out she had a great time.  As others have mentioned, this is less of a traditional municipal aquarium and more a rescue/rehab center.  That doesn't make it necessarily inferior though, if you're going there to learn or get close to the animals.   She really enjoyed petting the rays and the dolphin feeding.   Granted, this aquarium is a little rough around the edges when compared to most every other municipal aquarium I've ever been to.  But understanding this is a private non-profit organization just trying to do their best and fulfill their mission, helps me give them a wide pass on their fa...

My Daughter and I went to see the movie "Dolphin Tales". The move was very moving, and daddy had to hold back the tears. We were unaware that the movie was based on a true story of a Dolphin named Winter, who lost her tail by getting trapped in rope on a crab trap. I knew where the dolphin lived, because they actually filmed the movie there, and it was at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium! I'd driven by that place countless times going to Clearwater beach. I assumed that it would be very difficult to visit Winter, considering the popularity of the movie. But on a whim I took my daughter down to the aquarium and found out that visiting Winter was very easy. Winter's cause is a great way of raising awareness on h...

Took the family to see Winter the Dolphin today! We figured we would visit her before the big movie comes out. It refeshing how amazing the staff was. They are passionate, knowledgeable, and all of them have great customer service. Clearwater Marine Aquarium is not packed full of things to do if you want to be constantly intertained but there are presentations that occupy the entire day, most are less then an hour apart. This place is not lacking integrity in any way. All animals that call Clearwater Marine Aquarium their home are animals that they couldn't release back into the wild. Every animal's story is humbling and absolutly amazing. I would recommend visiting them! and watching the movie! Not to menti...
