The Coastal Discovery Center is likely to delight kids while educating them about California’s marine environment. A joint venture between the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and California State Parks, the Coastal Discovery Center has amazing interactive exhibits showcasing tide pools, elephant seals and sea life. A live trout exhibit educates the public about the importance of clean water to its fresh water inhabitants. The Deep Sea Voyages explores undersea mountains and sunken ships found in this part of the ocean. Kids can watch underwater video taken from manned and unmanned submersibles. Plus, families can learn about the elephant seals that can be seen along the Central Coast from December through March. This stretch of coast is an important site for elephant seal pupping and mating activities.
