The Columbus Statue, or Mirador de Colon, is the centerpiece of Barcelona’s Plaça de la Porta de Pau – a gigantic cast-iron monument to Christopher Columbus. At nearly 200 feet tall, the statue was erected for the Universal Exhibition of 1888 and marks the spot where Columbus returned from America in 1493.
