Crow Wing State Park is a 3000+ acre reserve that begins at the outskirts of Brainerd and winds around the confluence of the Mississippi and Crow Wing Rivers. A place of fascinating history and natural beauty, Crow Wing State Park is a favorite with campers, hikers and families looking for nearby outdoor adventure in Minnesota’s resplendent wilderness. The best way to get started at the park is to stop by the contact station for maps and information; families can also visit the website to find out about special events. For younger as well as older children, there are Junior Naturalist programs, which introduce kids to the nature, history and geology of Minnesota. Of special note: Crow Wing State Park has 18 miles of hiking trails and six miles of cross-country skiing trails; canoes and a picnic shelter are available to rent. The campground is easily accessible, with 12 campsites. Whether hiking, canoeing or simply enjoying a peaceful stroll, families will enjoy spotting wildlife in the park -- white-tailed deer, beavers, coyotes, muskrats, eagles and hawks are all common sights.
