This interactive fountain composed of two glass-brick towers, featuring mixed media - light, LED display, and water - united by a black granite pool was unveiled in 2004. It was designed by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, a renowned sculptor, who took his inspiration for the faces on the fountain from a selection of local people in Chicago that act as the traditional gargoyles. Its most striking features are the duo of 50-foot glass block towers and its 232-foot long pool where kids love getting splashed and freshened up during the hot summer months. The fountain?s water show runs from mid-spring to mid-fall. The images of Chicagoans remain year-round.
