The Detroit Institute of Arts Museum is a diverse collection of talent from centuries past to the present. The American Art exhibit features paintings from the colonial times through World War II. The arts of Africa, Egypt, the South Pacific and the Indigenous Americas are grouped into one collection while the intricate arts of Asia and the Islamic World are highlighted in another. In addition to paintings, photographs, sketches and prints from a variety of artists are also featured. Perhaps one of the most unique features of the museum is the General Motors Center for African American Art. A contemporary art collection is also on display. The Detroit Institute of Arts Museum celebrates the arts in all forms, whether through paint, photography, theater or film.
