    Wonderful location!

From the moment we drove up to the guard gate, we were greeted by smiling Disney employees. My favorite part about staying at the Grand Floridian is that it is on the monorail line and very close to the Magic Kingdom. The views of Cinderella’s Castle are magical! There are lots of restaurant choices on property. The pools are well staffed with lifeguards. The landscaping is also picture perfect!

Book a meal at one of the character dining experiences. The buffet is delicious and the time spent with the characters is well worth the price tag.

Luxury and Disney at the Floridian

We stayed for 3 nights at the Floridian Grand Hotel during our trip to Disney. We spent the first few days at The Animal Kingdom Lodge and wanted to change it up by moving to the Floridian. Wow! It was simply amazing. First of all, Disney moved our luggage for us so that we could spend the day in the Parks. Upon arriving at the Floridian, we checked into Sugarloaf, a concierge level accomodation. Feeling a little bedraggled, we aksed the concierge if there was a place to eat. He pointed to a full buffet dinner spread behind us and informed us that it came with the room. Over the next 3 days, we were lavished with luxury. The room included a breakfast buffet (pastries and fruit. granola etc). During the day, lunch was served and in the afternoon a tea was set out for us. The dinner buffet was modest but always included red and white wine. At night, decadent desserts and evening cordials were offered all at no cost. We loved the shops in the main part of the hotel. Live music was provided at various times of the day including a 7 piece band on the mezzanine or piano player in the lobby. The room was a victorian style with white trim and lots of florals. Thick bathrobes and high quality bath products added to our relaxation. The two pools and hot tub were enough to keep us entertained during the day. The private pool has a water slide and waterfalls. During the afternoon, A Wii Entertainment system was made available to the children and my 8 year old got his “fix” of gaming. I liked the fact that there was a limit to the time (about an hour or so). The concierge was available throughout the day to assist with dinner reservations or special events but we were so comfortable , we didn’t need his help. Disney even sent over a platter of gourmet cookies to celebrate a birthday. The Floridian is like a small village with restaurants, shops, walking paths and benches. This is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the Parks. Although it is located on the monorail, you could spend your whole time on the property without leaving. We had booked our airline flights and both hotels with Disney directly and were surprised how affordable the stay turned out to be!

    Tips for Families

The Floridian offers boating activities which are easily accessible.

Killer location, plush rooms, and a taste of grand ol’ Florida

The flagship resort at Disney World is appropriately grand and sprawling, oozing Southern charm and all the grand details of a colonial estate in Florida. The three-story lobby is simply breathtaking, rooms are plush, and the location is really fantastic — right on the monorail for a quick zip to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot. The landscaped grounds are just gorgeous (my sons were always spying tiny lizards by the footpath and pool area). My boys (10 and 13) enjoyed the pool (with cool underwater bubbling lights at night) and the water slide; they would have loved one that was faster and more thrilling–but this is just a quibble. For younger kids, the pirate-themed splash area is really fantastic. I didn’t get to try out the newly revamped spa on this visit, but the word is that it is truly spectacular. Next time!

    Tips for Families

This place is enormous, with several buildings that are quite spread out. If you’d rather not have to walk a far distance to get to the restaurants and park transportation, request a room close to the main building. We had quite a few of our meals at Gasparilla’s, a cafeteria-style that served good food at a very reasonable price. Perfect for a quick meal before hitting Expedition Everest or Mission: Space.
