At the downtown Huston Fire Museum, kids can see how firefighters lived and view equipment they used to respond to fires in the late 1800s to mid-1900s. Housed in an original fire station, the Houston Fire Museum takes advantage of the authentic surroundings to showcase the history of the Houston Fire Department. The two-story building houses antique vehicles, such as a 1937 Chevrolet pumper, an 1895 Ahrens Fox horse-drawn steamer, a 19th-century hand powered pumper and a 1938 REO fire truck. The museum’s second floor contains a prized collection of 18th to 20th century fire service artifacts that is rotated every quarter.
