Fort Clinch Nature Walk, Fernandina Beach, Florida
2601 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034| Map |
Fort Clinch is one of the most well preserved 19th century forts in the country. It did not actually see battle, but the fort was garrisoned during both the Civil and Spanish-American Wars. In the 1930s, many of the structures were rebuilt and preserved. Today, history is brought back to life for visitors as reenactments depicting garrison life make Fort Clinch come alive. After learning all about the Fort's rich history, visitors can sunbath or swim from the beach, fish from the pier and take advantage of the hiking and biking trails at the park. Finally, the park's self-guided nature trails allow the nature lover to learn all about native plants and wildlife.
