Fort Hamilton, Hamilton, Bermuda
Happy Valley Rd., Hamilton, Bermuda| Map |
Kids will have fun scampering around historic canons at Fort Hamilton, located on the outskirts of Hamilton City. Although the canons never had to be fired to defend enemy attacks, the fort was built in the 1870s to protect the harbor. Fort Hamilton’s upper levels have been landscaped with lawns overlooking the harbor, providing spectacular views. The gardens are a nice place for a picnic. A moat surrounding the fort has been converted into tropical gardens with bamboo and fern, attracting birds, frogs and lizards. There’s also a walking path that follows the moat. Fort Hamilton, which is managed by the Corporation of Bermuda and functions as a plant nursery, plays host to seasonal events.
