The adventure to a famous American historical site begins with a boat ride with Fort Sumter Tours and SpiritLine Cruises. A National Park Service concessioner, Fort Sumter Tours provides comfortable transportation to the island Fort Sumter where the Civil War began. Passengers can board the yachts (equipped with restrooms and snack bars) at Liberty Square in downtown Charleston or in Mt. Pleasant at the Patriots Point Maritime Museum, the world’s largest naval and maritime museum. Once aboard, passengers cruise for 30 minutes through Charleston’s historic harbor out to Fort Sumter. The narrated tour explains many points of interest and historic significance. At Fort Sumter National Park, historians will discuss its pivotal role in the war among the states. After one hour, passengers may cruise back to port or opt to extend their visit by another three hours.
