Garland Ranch is comprised of 4,400 acres of uninterrupted natural beauty but it is best known as a hiking destination that is accessible to both novice and experienced hikers. The dog-friendly trails meander through mountainous and scenic terrain. Families will find places for hiking, backpacking, trail running, horseback riding, birding and even some mountain bike riding. Sights along the trails include the placid Carmel River, numerous ponds, trees, wildflowers, wildlife, flora, lush fern forests, horses, birds, and butterflies. The visitors center provides loaner maps, informational pamphlets and resources, plant guides and the park rangers are on hand to help map out hikes. Moderately steep trails include the La Mesa Pond Trail, the Oak View Trail, Waterfall Trail and the Garza Canyon Trail. For a more strenuous hike, consider the Snively's Ridge and the East Ridge Trails. Picnic sites are available throughout the trails, too.
