Goodwood Museum and Gardens is a window to Old Florida’s past, and provides a lovely day in the country as well as an education in plantation history. The main house was once the defining feature of a 2,400-acre plantation, and today it functions as a museum, surrounded by several outbuildings and charming flower gardens. All furnishings are original to the house, which is liberally decorated with chandeliers, mirrors, glassware, antique china and features fine ceiling frescoes. The outbuildings include the girls cottage, the bird house and water tower, all ringed with ancient oaks dripping with Spanish moss. Tours are available Tuesday through Saturday. For families planning to spend half a day at Goodwood, lunch at Fanny's Garden Café makes for a nice break. All in all, Goodwood Museum and Gardens is a scenic and interesting place that makes for a peaceful family outing.
