Anchorage Grand Hotel is grand for families, indeedFlag review
The Anchorage Grand rates highly among traveling Alaskans, due to its accessibility to downtown Anchorage attractions, and for its reasonable rates. A former apartment building, the property is located just above the historic Alaska Railroad Depot (a drawback for those without kids who don't like the chug, chug sound of trains), and just below the famous Anchorage Market and Festival, a weekly plethora of Alaskan kitch. With suites available to suit any size family, and with full kitchenettes, the Anchorage Grand is definitely a great choice for budget-conscious moms and dads. A bit dated in decor, perhaps, but very clean and very kind to kids, and that scores high with our family. Continental breakfast, wireless, cribs on request, and televisions in rooms.
Tips for Families
Take advantage of your location to walk along the famous 11-mile Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, just a block away. This property is also a nice option if you take the train to/from Anchorage, since it's an easy walk or taxi ride up the hill to your lodgings. Visit the Anchorage Market and Festival on Saturdays/Sundays May-September; full of treats and interesting characters, the market is a truly Alaskan experience. Walk to 4th Avenue and take a Downtown Trolley Tour, or visit the Public Lands Building. The Visit Anchorage (visitors bureau) Log Cabin Visitor Center is on 4th, too, and is a great place to begin your explorations.
