Trained docents walk visitors through the mansion, the Victorian garden, law office, two carriage barns and the agricultural barns. Many docents have wonderful stories and anecdotes to share about the family and the history of the mansion and carriage barn. Seasonal carriage rides, which begin and end at the Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum, take passengers on a fascinating trip back in time through the side streets of the Canandaigua Historic District and onto the grounds of Sonnenberg Gardens. Ideal for young children are the shorter 10-minute rides around the property itself. Also offered seasonally are 10-minute sleigh rides in a one-horse, open-sleigh around the Granger estate. Families flock to the estate during the holidays for the Canandaigua Christkindle Market, a festive European-style marketplace featuring artisans, food, music, family entertainment, a children?s elf school and children?s lantern parade. Another popular family event is the annual Civil War Encampment, where re-enactors demonstrate Civil War life, including artillery, signal corps and a blacksmith.
