Hearst Castle is the Central Coast’s crown glory, attracting visitors from all over who want to see where newspaper tycoon William Randolf Hearst entertained the rich and famous in the 1920s and 1930s. The majestic estate is situated atop a hill affording gorgeous views of land and sea, especially at sunset when clouds make it appear that the castle is floating. It’s necessary to book a tour in order to gain access to the historic mansion. There are several guided tours to choose from. The daytime tours include a ticket for a 40-minute film about Hearst Castle -- Building the Dream -- shown on a five-story screen at the Visitor Center. During the tours, visitors will see two amazing swimming pools -- the outdoor Neptune Pool, and the indoor Roman Pool. At the end for each tour, visitors are welcome to stroll along the lovely landscaped gardens. The castle glitters at night when the sun goes down.
