When it comes to Hershey attractions for kids, this Pennsylvania town delivers in a big way thanks to the sweet that made it famous, Hershey’s chocolate. Known across the country as Chocolate Town, USA, the list of things to do in Hershey with kids is extensive.
One stop to be sure to add to your trip plan is Hershey’s Chocolate World. Here, families embark on Hershey’s Great American Chocolate Tour where they’re carted through a simulation of the chocolate-making process. Kids can also act as “factory workers” on a Hershey’s Kiss assembly line or enjoy a 3-D musical show. For some more information pertaining to the Hershey legacy, you can also check out the Hershey Museum’s artifacts and exhibits recreating chocolate town.
Of course no itinerary of Hershey attractions for kids would be complete without at least a day at Hersheypark. This amusement park has less to do with chocolate and more to do with age-appropriate thrills. It boasts more than 60 attractions for kids, which encompass 11 roller coasters, 20-plus rides specifically for children and a handful of live shows. That’s not to mention the Boardwalk, which plays host to water slides and other warm-weather rides, and ZooAmerica, an adjacent wildlife park (admission is included with a ticket to Hersheypark).
For something that both parents and kids can enjoy, families can head to Hershey Gardens. This often-overlooked Hershey-themed tourist attraction flaunts 23 acres of botanical gardens complete with a garden specifically for kids and a butterfly house (open during the summer). Plus, you’ll gain free admission if you stay at one of Hersheypark’s official resorts.
If you’re looking for a Hershey activity even further off the beaten path, head out for a Falconry Experience. Led by a master falconer in a quiet meadow, this outing allows kids to see a falcon up close in a completely safe enviroment. They might even don a protective glove and let the majestic bird perch atop their arm (under the falconer’s strict supervision).
The fun for kids continues at local hotels such as the Hershey Lodge. This family-friendly spot gives kids their own check-in desk and guest register when they walk in, plus a kids’ desk that hosts everything from giveaways of cowboy hats to contests over who can guess the number of Hershey Kisses in a jar. For parents, the rooms and suites boast complimentary WiFi, LCD TVs, iPod docks and coffee and tea makers. That’s not to mention the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, dry saunas, game room and sports courts. Plus, since this is an official Hersheypark resort, your stay includes discounts to the park and free admission to Hershey Gardens.
Of course, there’s no shortage of hotels near Hersheypark. You can also check out The Hotel Hershey, perched atop a peak that overlooks the town or the Suites at Hershey, both located just a short trip from the park. As for hotels near Hershey's Chocolate World, the list encompasses most of the same hotels, including Hershey Lodge.
