Clean, Convenient Extended StayFlag review
We stayed at the Homewood Suites in Greece when we were having water issues at our house and needed a long Memorial Day weekend away (with working showers!). We decided to go to Rochester (about 2 hours away) to take our 2 year old daughter to the Strong National Museum of Play, the Seneca Park Zoo, and Ontario Beach Park. This particular hotel received high reviews online and we have previously stayed at a Homewood Suites (Horseheads, NY) and enjoyed it, so we thought we'd give it a try. Even last minute, it was only $150 per night, and what we got for our money was pretty fantastic. Our room was quite large, with a separate living room, flat screen TVs in both the living area and master bedroom, a fully-equipped kitchenette, and a vanity area separate from the bathroom. This was a really wonderful extra, as it eliminates the hassle of trying to get ready in a steam-filled bathroom in the morning (high humidity and hair do not mix well). The air conditioning actually made our bedroom so cold we had to turn it down - very powerful! Usually, we're hot in hotels this time of year. There was a separate air conditioning unit in the living area, which we kept low as our daughter slept there in her inflatable travel bed. We had free Wi-Fi that was easy to use - the user name and password is simply your room number and your last name. There is a mostly okay but not overly impressive indoor pool on the premises, but we didn't use it. The front desk staff was courteous, and the cleaning staff was kind enough to leave us a note explaining why a particular space in the room wasn't arranged (our personal belongings were there) rather than just leaving it as-is with no explanation. The hotel itself is near a Starbucks and many chain restaurants and is minutes away from downtown Rochester. I highly recommend this Homewood Suites location for families with small children.
Tips for Families
Even if you're just staying somewhere for one night, try to get a room at an extended stay hotel. For often less than the cost of a regular hotel room, you get everything you'd get at a normal hotel plus an extra sleeping area, a fully-equipped kitchen, multiple TVs, free Wi-Fi, and free use of a large refrigerator/freezer and a microwave (sometimes even an oven and/or dishwasher, too). It's basically like getting a one bedroom apartment for less than the cost of a normal hotel room. You can also save money by preparing food in the room rather than going out, and extended stays often offer free breakfast and have coin-operated laundry facilities on the premises. You really can't get a better deal for the money.

Suggestions for nearby family-friendly restaurants
We went to the Cheesecake Factory (we don't have one in Syracuse) and a local Thai place. There are lots of chain restaurants near the hotel - Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc.
