Totally Hip Life at the BeachFlag review
Every once in a while I like to take just one of my kids on a trip, just the two of us. Recently I took my 14 yr old to Venice Beach for an amazing long weekend. We really couldn't have found a better place to stay than the Hotel Erwin. The hotel was recently renovated by the Joie de Vivre Hotel Group but somehow you still feel like it's 1977 and you're the coolest of the cool. Just one block from the beach, we could hear the ocean from the open windows and could even sneak a peek of it from the bedroom of our suite. Yes, suite! At the time of booking the reservation you can pay $9 to be on a list for an upgrade and if they have the space at check-in, you're in for a real treat! We had a massive suite, complete with fireplace and kitchenette. Totally swanky. Joie de Vivre is known for it's little perks that make this line of boutique hotels favorites of my family. My daughter had the best time choosing a different pair of sample sunglasses for each day that were waiting for us on the kitchen counter. And it's a pretty cool perk to be given some Izzy's and a small bottle of wine at check in. We arrived around 5pm and the guy at the desk suggested we hurry up to the roof top bar to watch the sunset over the Pacific. This is an adult only zone after sunset, when it becomes THE place for the beautiful people to hang out around the fire pits and heaters, cuddled under blankets. We went straight to the roof with our complimentary drink card, order hot chocolates and took in one of the most glorious sunsets we've ever seen. The staff was super friendly and always interested in my daughter being entertained and happy. They gave us great advice for an amazing bike ride along the ocean and really terrific restaurant recommendations. Their own restaurant, the Barlo Kitchen, offers "barn to belly" cuisine that was straight from the farmer's market. Fresh and whimsical and really delicious. They were fine catering to my daughter's picky appetite and let's just say, they make s delightful bloody mary! I loved this experience with my daughter. She felt special and totally hip, loved having friends visit and hang out there and cannot wait to go back!
