Howelsen Ski Area, Steamboat Springs, Colorado

Howelsen Ski Area is unique among Colorado’s ski areas. Not only is it the oldest, it has the largest natural ski jumping complex in the country. Howelsen is home to many ski champions and Olympians -- but it’s a great place to visit for families, too. Located downtown, the complex offers 17 alpine and nine cross-country trails in the winter, and great hiking and mountain biking trails in the summer. A major attraction is the Alpine Slide, a fast, bumpy tube trip down the mountain during the summer months. The chair lift takes riders to the top of the mountain for spectacular panoramic views, and the slide is a long ride to the bottom -- something the kids will want to do more than once. While the Howelsen Ski Area is famous for its world-class skiers, it’s also one of the least difficult, family-friendly facilities around -- making it perfect for a day of summer or winter fun.
