Idropark Fila (Idroscalo), Milan, Italy

Locally known as “Milan’s Beach”, IdroPark Fila is much more than just a quiet spot on the water. Initially the lovely man-made basin (which was constructed in 1928) served as a landing area for sea planes. However, these days the green oasis plays host to numerous sporting events and cultural activities and is a great spot to kick back and relax. Guests craving a little R&R can swim, and sunbathe on the beach; which also offers umbrella, deck chair and paddle boat rentals. Meanwhile, travelers fresh off a long flight can stretch their legs by tackling the rock climbing walls, renting a bicycle or strapping on some inline skates. Those who plan ahead can also rent out the beach volleyball, soccer or tennis courts. Though the park offers a fine selection of bars and restaurants, low key guests can opt to find a quiet, shady corner and enjoy a Milanese-style picnic. Lucky visitors may even be treated to organized rowing and boating races, or one of the many free concerts or cultural events so popular on warm summer evenings. The whole family is sure to love it.
