Kapalua Bay Beach, Kaanapali/Lahaina, Hawaii

Been coming here since I was a young kid.  Parents have even had their vows renewed twice here.  Kapalua Bay is a WONDERFUL calm and relatively small beach on the West Side of Maui.  Tired of the action of Kaanapali and Kahana?  Come here to relax.  This is not a good beach for "beach activities" in my opinion, but thats why its so great.  The waves are always tranquil and the water clean...one of my favorite places to snorkel.  I'd recommend any beginner snorkeler to start at Kapalua Bay, its calm, protected...tons of fish and easy to get to and from. So why not 5 stars you say?  Well I'm bitter, ever since they've killed Kapalua by tearing the Kapalua Bay Hotel down and putting up vacant over priced condos...

This review should be entitled "Learning to Snorkel in Kapalua Bay." My sister-in-law Liz is native Hawaiian, and she says this is the best place on Maui to learn to snorkel.   We rented our snorkeling gear from the Maui Dive Shop (expensive, but excellent fittings) and headed out to Kapalua Bay.  I was extremely concerned about safety, especially since my husband could not come on this trip and I was solely responsible for the safety of my two daughters.  Coming home without one or both would be very bad.  We rented the yellow dive belts, and we wore them every time we went in the water.  Even people who live on the island get swept away in currents while snorkeling and swimming, and I did not want to take ...

For the Haoles that want a beach without Man-O-Wars, a spot to sun, and it not been too crowed ya';  go to Sandy Beach. Find it by first heading to Kapalua Bay area, then putting in your GPS to find the Four Seasons resort area and find parking by the hotel circle. They have this awesome 4 net volleyball quad that is wicked. Right on the beach, next to the hotel. It is windy, gives you some great sets to boogie board, body board. You can throw up a surfboard however there is lifeguard on duty. The water like most of the islands doesn't get deep which means the waves crash on shore; so be prepared for some thrashing.
