Kilauea Iki Trail, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii
Crater Rim Drive, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii 96785| Map |
The four-mile Kilauea Iki Trail takes families through jungle, crater and lava with plenty of tropical foliage to enjoy along the way. The views of rising steam from the dormant calderas are quite a sight although there is no need to be afraid of explosions. However, they are very hot so it's best to view from a distance. Families can choose to hike the rim trail, a short 0.5 mile hike or go into the crater and spend an hour or so exploring.

The Kilauea Iki Trail is easiest to hike going counter-clockwise. Families with little ones will want to take this option for the least amount of uphill paths.
