La Hacienda del los Martinez, Taos, New Mexico
Ranchitos Rd, Taos, New Mexico 87571| Map |
The Hacienda de los Martinez is one of New Mexico’s few Spanish Colonial ''Great Houses'' left in existence, and as such, should be a stop for families traveling through Taos. This 200-year-old adobe mansion lies at the edge of town on the old Camino Real that connected the region to Mexico City, and was an important site of trade, ranching and farming operations for many years. Some of the rooms are open to visitors as a museum, containing furnishings and store fixtures that date back to when the Martinez family was alive and well. A small gift shop is available for souvenirs, a good place to pause after a good hour or so of wandering through the displays. Families who want to get a taste of old Spanish life on the frontier should stop by the Hacienda de los Martinez.
