The quirky offerings of Madame Tussaud have drawn visitors for over 200 years. Marie Tussaud began her craft in France and ventured to London in the early 19th century. Madame Tussauds Wax Museum opened in 2000 in New York City, and it features a line-up of meticulously maintained, incredibly lifelike wax figures. Their "no ropes or barriers" policy means you can take all the photos you want with replicas of your favorite celebrities, world leaders or cultural figures. The impeccable details makes this a worthwhile attraction, especially if you or your family appreciate true artisanship. The museum caters to older kids and adults, although nearly all the exhibits are hands-on, which can make it a relaxing choice among the family attractions in New York City even if you have little kids.
A wide range of exhibits at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum includes musicians, athletes, historical and cultural icons. Some celebrities even donate their clothing to make the figures truly authentic. The pop culture exhibit includes notable characters from Frank Sinatra to the Spice Girls. The Gallery features world-renowned thinkers and leaders, such as Einstein, Nelson Mandela and the Kennedys. The New York location even has a Bollywood Zone. The life-size proportions of professional athlete wax figures can help any sports fans in your family understand what it takes to compete on a professional level, physically. It also features people linked to the New York region, which can help you gain greater insight into the history and culture of this amazing city. Don't forget to add the 4D theater to your visit. Short films feature 3D graphics as well as scents, mist and other sensory effects.

Great fun for the older kidsFlag review
I chaperoned a school trip for 12 and 13 year olds to Madame Tussaud's. It seemed that the only thing better than taking photos with the wax versions of their pop and sports idols would have been to actually have met them in person! Although the kids spent less time on looking at and reading about the replicas of historic figures, they did spend some time in those sections of the museum as well. Overall this was a big hit, and my daughter has asked to visit again in the near future.
Tips for Families
This attraction is more suitable to tweens and teens than younger children, who might not know who the majority of the wax figures represent.
