Maroon Bells, Aspen, Colorado
Aspen Highlands, Aspen, Colorado| Map |
Just 10 minutes from Aspen, the breathtaking Maroon Bells are said to be the most photographed peaks on the entire North American continent. These unforgettable natural wonders rise more than 14,000 feet above sea level and are surrounded by some of the state’s most picturesque forestlands and wildflower-filled meadows. Aside from the scenic beauty, several family-friendly trails are also a big draw for visitors. The easy to moderate Maroon Lake Scenic Trail and Maroon Creek Trail are perhaps the best options for little explorers, taking around 2.5 and 3.5 hours to complete respectively. Along the way, visitors can snap photos of the lovely columbines (Colorado’s state flower) and maybe even spot a moose or deer. Families are welcome to bring a picnic lunch but should be sure to leave no trace. Although visitors have limited access by car, mountain bikers and hikers are welcome to explore free of charge. However, only experienced mountaineers should aim for the summit as these lovely peaks are deceptively dangerous.
