Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, San Diego, California

The USS Midway Museum is a real naval aircraft carrier that serves as a public museum in San Diego. Located right in the downtown area and a short walk from the Trolley station, the Midway Museum is an awesome place for families to tour. Visitors can walk around on the flight deck and see real fighter planes, and actually sit in the cockpits of some. There’s a free audio tour with admission, making the museum that much easier to navigate. Also, docents stationed at multiple points along the way can tell personal stories of what life was like serving aboard the vessel. The Midway is gigantic, so plan to take about three hours to see all the sights – everything from the galley and laundry rooms, to the engine room and bridge of the ship. For an attraction that can fascinate young and old – not to mention great photos of the ship and the San Diego skyline – a visit to the Midway Museum is a must.

Don't Miss a Visit to the Midway if in San Diego!Flag review
THe midway is an amazing look at what life on a ship is really like. Older kids will really enjoy the tour of the entire ship. There are headphones included in the price of admission. For smaller kids, I suggest splitting time between the simulators/cockpits you can climb on in the interior of the ship in main area where you pay-enter and the main deck topside where there are more planes to climb in and on. This is NOT someplace to take a stroller if you tour the entire ship. Many ladders and steps.
Tips for Families
Be sure to make time to run around and climb on the main carrier deck! There are several planes you can climb in and on!
