Of all the things to do in America's Dairyland, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater has to be one of the most elevating. The theater is made up of a group of stages all housed in a historic building. It's directly adjacent to the Milwaukee River. The Milwaukee Performing Arts Center is just about a block away. Buy your tickets online or at the box office, grab your theater glasses and head to one of their kid-friendly productions for quality family time.
This artists' repertory theater offers matinees throughout the week and on the weekend, which are ideal if any members of your family have a strict bedtime. The shows are typically about 90 minutes, but you can do a little research on specific titles if you're juggling multiple activities in one day. One fun thing to do that's also super convenient is eating dinner at the Stackner Cabaret. The shows are usually chipper musicals that are appropriate for the younger crowd. Plan on arriving early if you're eating at the cabaret because the kitchen closes when the play starts. Book a kid-friendly hotel near Milwaukee Repertory Theater and you'll be in a good place to arrive on time, as well enjoy other artsy attractions in the city's East Town neighborhood.
Their seasons feature diverse choices, including yearly renditions of the Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol." This traditional Milwaukee Theater event could be a memorable way to start your family's holiday season. If you decide to see "A Christmas Carol," plan your trip for the winter months and book your tickets early. Do you have theater buffs and budding actors in your family? Then you might enjoy their time-honored fare, such as "Noises Off," and selections by Oscar Wilde or Shakespeare. Productions here commonly include contemporary pieces, musicals and thought-provoking adaptations of literature, like "An Illiad." Remember to check age recommendations for each play!

Great way to have your teenager "meet" a classicFlag review
My daughter and I attended the Rep's production of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility. Many of you probably know her best as the author of Pride and Prejudice, but her work Sense and Sensibility can be equally entertaining. The Milwaukee Repertory's cast at this Quadracci Powerhouse production was outstanding, truly making Austen's work come to life.
Tips for Families
If they have a "talk back" scheduled, do take advantage of it. The conversations, after the performance, with the actors can be so enlightening.
