Rating for your family
Montjuic Castle is usually one of the first places visitors head to when traveling through Barcelona. This historic site is located on a hilltop with commanding views of the city and harbor, and provides an exciting, educational family outing for people of all ages. The famous castle dates from the 1600s and figures in many important events in Spanish history. This venue is free to visit, and includes the Museum of Comics & Illustrations, an outdoor movie theater and children's playground. The grounds around the castle are lovely wooded areas to walk through, and were the location of the 1929 World’s Fair and the 1992 Olympics. The area has been further developed over the years, and the adjacent attractions comprise some of Barcelona’s most popular destinations. However, just heading for Montjuic Castle is a pleasant family outing in itself – it’s great to relax in the park, listen to strolling musicians, enjoy the food kiosks and get some fresh air.
