Mount Roberts Tramway in Juneau a highline adventure for families!Flag review
Mount Roberts Tramway, located at the base of Juneau's Mount Roberts, provides families with a triple-dose of active fun. Between the tram ride straight up the 2,000 foot mountain, visitors can receive a hands-on education of the Native Alaskan culture that has existed there for centuries. Hike the interpretive loop from the top of the tram, keeping an eye out for carvings into the outer layer of bark on the hemlock trees, then wander indoors to the movie theater, restaurant, or Bald Eagle Center.
Tips for Families
Take care on the narrow, alpine trails. Smaller kids should be near a grownup at all times. The Alaska TourSaver coupon book offers a 2-for-1 deal on the tram ride; without it tickets are near $20. Worth it, however. Spend a few hours up top, and enjoy a meal or snack at the restaurant (sit by the window!). If you are not part of a cruise ship visiting the port, take the tram on a "non ship" day (fewer folks), or go in the evening to capture the beautiful sunset. Take a water bottle or two, and snacks for kids. While jog strollers could perform well on shorter trails, for higher hikes, pack young babies/toddlers on your back or front.
