Built during the 16th century, the Museum of the Royal Houses is one of the most important cultural monuments of the Dominican Republic. The building was originally constructed to house Spanish authority for the Americas. It was restored to its original 16th century appearance and established on October 18, 1973 as a museum documenting the history of Santo Domingo.
