Myakka River State Park, Sarasota, Florida
13208 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241| Map |
Myakka State Park protects one of the state's most diverse natural areas. The Myakka river, designated as a Florida Wild and Scenic River, flows through the park which includes 58 square miles of wetlands, prairies, hammocks and pinelands. The wildlife can be viewed from a boardwalk, and visitors can walk among the trees on a canopy walkway. Since the park has two lakes, there is plenty of space for boating, freshwater fishing, canoeing and kayaking. In addition, lake tours are offered aboard the world's largest airboat. These tours showcase the scenic beauty of the park. If hiking is preferred, there are numerous hiking trails all around Myakka State Park to spend the day exploring.
