The Mystic Seaport is touted as the Museum of America and the Sea, and it is just that – an authentic experience of New England’s seafaring days. Not just for fans of maritime history, the Seaport has a full range of activities and attractions to fascinate everyone in the family. Stroll the 19th-century-style village and see where an authentic whaling ship is being restored, and even climb aboard one to look around. As the largest maritime museum complex in the country, the Mystic Seaport has the largest collection of boats anywhere, plus galleries, shows and hands-on activities designed for children. The port can be explored via the Necessity water shuttle, and most weekends include some kind of special event. The Mystic Seaport is a great place for families to walk around at their own pace and just spend some time together at no cost.
