National Civil War Museum, Hershey, Pennsylvania

The National Civil War Museum is the only United States museum to provide a balanced, completely unbiased look at the Civil War. It is a great stop to make for families with elementary-age kids and older. This two-story building houses pictures, clothing, weapons, letters and other artifacts dating back to just before the outbreak of the Civil War. With an emphasis on the human aspect of the war, this museum places heavy focus on the lives of common soldiers and families of the Civil War rather than the more influential historical figures of that period. As a result, National War Museum exhibits on soldiers include not only war hero stories but personal weapons, stories of wounds and disease, prisoner-of-war tales and the emotional drain of battle.
