National Railway Museum (Museo del Ferrocarril), Madrid, Spain
Paseo de las Delicias 61, Madrid, Spain 28045| Map |
National Railway Museum is another unusual attraction to see in Madrid, one that will interest families of all ages. Located at the old train station of Delicias near Atocha, the museum contains several perfect examples of locomotives and rolling stock, some of which can be entered and explored. There are multiple model train sets that will fascinate the children, plus a comprehensive collection of relics, documents and equipment all relating to the historic railways of Spain. The displays are all in Spanish, so some of the info may be lost on non-Spanish speakers, but it’s still a visual treat. The museum mounts several temporary exhibitions during the year and offers tours, workshops and performances designed for children and families. There’s even a model railway flea market on the first Sunday of the month. However, most of the time the National Railway Museum is just a stress-free, affordable side trip everyone in the family can enjoy.
